"The Letter"

She sat quietly on the window seat in the hall. The sun cast it's brilliant light over her hunched over shoulder. She was sitting catty corner on that seat, bent over a paper and painstakingly finishing what she wanted the page to say. Crumpled paper littered the seat and the floor around her, showing she had been there most of the day. She was on her last sheet of paper. All was going well too. She finally got what she wanted to write down. The last words where carefully placed down and she sat up straight then arched her back as she stretched her hands over her head to stretch those annoying kinks out.
Finally she rose, smoothing out the dress she wore. The dress she chose was a powdery aqua in color with pearl ribbons and buttons. It had a slight dip at the neck to show just the smallest amount of skin. She wore a pair of gloves the same color as the buttons and beneath the dress matching shoes could be seen peeking out from the hem which swayed and brushed at the floor. Her cheeks had the slightest brush of pale rose rough and her lips where glossed with the same color. Silky hair was pulled up in to a slight twist with a pearl clasp holding it lovingly against the nap of her neck. Curls hung down to delicately frame her face and tickle against her neck... It was the same she had worn on their first and only dinner. The memories sent an ache through her heart and she lifted the paper slowly, scanning over the words once more....

Shadow,

My dearest Shadow, My heart, My soul, My life. I do nae know why ye went away, or even to where ye went. I have searched long and hard for any word of ye or sign. I've found nothing. I know that ye love me as much as I love ye, so ye did nae leave because of me. Sometimes I had doubts about that, but The necklace ye gave me washes them all away. Perhaps I'm silly for waiting so long. And it has been long, many, many months. Kenneth and the others say I should get on with my life and find someone else. But I do nae want anyone else. They say tis nae healthy tae wait so long. But for ye I would wait forever. Nae one could compare tae ye my Shadow.
As I said though, it's been a long time. Thus I decided tae write tae ye. I wish I knew if ye are all right, if yer unconscious somewhere, or someone's prisoner. I do nae believe yer dead. For if ye did die so would I, for ye are my 'eart. I promise I'll wait for ye my love. I hope this letter finds ye even though I could nae. I'll wait for ye even tae my dying day. Be safe my love, and do nae worry tae much for me. I go tae yer cabin every
week tae make sure it is clean and tae see if ye 'ave returned. I do nae go anymore then that because it would hurt too bad tae see that empty cabin every day. Oh Shadow please come back to me soon. I can wait forever, but I want ye here now. Perhaps I'm being selfish. Or maybe ye have found another, that deserves ye. Nae, I trail off intae my fears again. Forgive me, for I know ye would nae go and do that tae me. I just miss ye so much. And thus I've reached the end of the page. Please come home, safe and sound My Shadow. I'll be here for ye always.

                                                                        Love always and forever,

                                                                                          Blade

The letter was folded in three carefully, with one side folded a bit further then the other so she could place a kiss at the edge of the last fold. An aqua light glimmered and the letter was sealed and protected with that kiss and a few stray tears. She took a deep breath and straightened her back bravely. The gently click of her heels echoed up and down the halls as she walked to the door and out. The letter was lifted on open hands and she called out in her normal whispery voice.
"Brother wind 'ear mah plea. I beg of ye tae carry this letter straight and true tae mah Love. Through rain and thunder, over sea and desert. Protect this fragile call and deliver it safely tae the one who 'olds mah 'eart."
The wind whistled and swirled around her and then carefully lifted the letter from her palms. And so very gently the letter blew up and away over the wall and trees. Tears flooded those aqua twins and spilled down her cheeks as she watched even after the letter vanished from sight. Finally she brushed the tears away and dropped her hands to her sides. Her whisper haunted the courtyard one last time before she turned and padded back into the castle.
"Please reach 'im, Please gods let it reach 'im........"
